Lost .pdf in Adobe Acrobat Reader

I was sent a .pdf file consisting of a large .ppt slide deck and I was asked to provide comment.  I opened the .pdf file in Adobe Acrobat Reader and provided comment using the "Comment" tool in Adobe.  I then saved the file to a folder on my hard drive.  I re-opened the file after taking a short break and then saved it again.  The file has now disappeared from my computer.  I did a search using the filename on "This PC" and the filename shows up as a shortcut in location C:\Users\AppData\Roaming|Microsoft\Windows\Recent Items.  When I click on the shortcut, I get a message that the shortcut refers to a file that has been changed or moved (I neither changed or moved the file).  I am running a Dell Latitude ES470 loaded with Windows 10.  Could anyone please help me? I'm desperate.  The missing file represents two full days of hard work.
