When I group comments, I lose the text of 1 of the comments

The situation: I have 2 comments on the page, let's say: (1) a Line and (2) an Add text callout that says "Change this". I group the 2 comments using Control > Group. I often (but not always*) get this error message:

After the selected comments are grouped, status, text contents, and replies of the non-primary comment will be hidden.

If Acrobat considers the Line to be the "primary comment", then what shows up in the comments pane is a comment described as a Line with no text. If Acrobat considers the Add text callout to be the "primary comment", then the comments pane shows my comment with the "Change this" text in place.

I always want the Add text callout to be the primary comment. How can I set that?

Asked another way: How can I select one comment or the other to be the primary comment?

*I mentioned this error comes up sometimes, not always. I can't figure out the pattern for how Acrobat determines the primary comment. The following factors seem to make no difference:

  • Which comment was made first (ie, timestamp)
  • Which comment takes up more space/real estate on the page
  • Which comment is closer to the top of the page
  • Type of comment

Thanks in advance for any help.
