My reviewers want to be able to review a document simultaneously. They are all using old versions of Acrobat... as old as Acrobat 8. None of them have Acrobat DC. I have tried setting up a webDAV review, and after speaking with someone from Adobe, have come to the conclusion that it is not possible and not supported.
So I tried to simulate being a reviewer using a similar configuration as what my clients are working on: an old version of Acrobat, and a new version of Reader. But that doesn't work either, because apparently, Acrobat Pro is hard-coded into the path to open the document.
So now it seems that the only option is to use the web interface, which honestly is quite limiting. It doesn't have all the tools, and all the comments are listed on a page by page basis, rather than as a handy list. So in order for people to see all the comments, they have to scroll, wait, scroll, wait, scroll, wait. Scroll, scroll, scroll... Endless scrolling!
This is a horrible end user experience. This document is 276 pages long and the web interface and functionality of Acrobat DC for Web does not AT ALL match the desktop experience.
- I can't demand that my clients all upgrade to a subscription to Acrobat DC.
- I cannot create a Shared Review because I am on a Mac and webDAV only works on windows servers, and not on third party servers.
- And even if I was on a windows server, I'd still have to get an IT team involved.
- I cannot create an email based review because my document is over 150 MB.
So Adobe, what is your solution? Got anything?
