Acrobat crashing when using button tool

I am having problems with Acrobat. Every time I try to use the button tool and place on a drawing, the program becomes unresponsive and I have to exit via task managar. We have ascertained that it only seems to happen with files which were opriginally drawn in CAD then converted to PDF. I have repaired Acrobat (version x), updated, done a fresh vanilla install, rolled back to version 9 all to no avail. Somoene else has Acrobat version 8.0.1 and can place the button tool on the same drawing without any problem. Any ideas?
